Biography
Michaela Alderman is excited to join the fantastic faculty and administration at PBA and begin the next stage in her career. Having received an excellent biblical and pedagogical foundation during her studies at Moody Bible Institute, she taught ESL in a local ministry while getting a Bachelors in TESOL and Biblical Studies. During and after college Michaela spent several summers in Russia, spending several months in communal outreach and teaching ESL camps for local children and orphans staying in a transition home. Orphan ministry is an enduring passion that continues to influence her personal and academic journey. She completed her Masters in English Literature through Mercy College in 2022, during which time she presented two papers at Mercy’s Writing In Text Conference and co-edited the 2022 edition of Mercy’s literary journal, Red Hyacinth. Her Masters thesis, ‘Home for the Friendless: The Rhetoric about the Nineteenth-century Orphan,’ explores the rhetoric surrounding late 19th-century orphans in New York City’s complex social aid scene. Michaela aims to teach in higher education going forward, having taught in the public and private secondary sectors for several years in Houston during which time she focused on teaching students in need of academic intervention and ESL support. Outside the classroom, Michaela enjoys historical fashion, Russian cultural studies and theatre.
