Biography

Dr. Phil Tobin brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role in Physician Assistant (PA) education. He has an impressive career spanning over twenty-six years. His journey in PA education is marked by significant leadership positions, including serving as the director of the School of PA Studies at Touro University Nevada and leading the Mercer University Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Tobin’s commitment to education extended into his role at Harding University, where he enriched the PA program with his expertise. 

Beyond academia, Dr. Tobin’s compassion and commitment to service shine through his involvement with The Shade Tree, a non-profit dedicated to aiding homeless and domestically abused women and children, where he served as chairman of the board. His advisory role for Morehouse Medical School’s PA program and as president of the Arkansas Academy of Physician Assistants further illustrates his influence in the PA community. 

Dr. Tobin’s distinguished military career as a retired Air Force officer, culminating in his role as the deputy branch chief of the Radio Frequency Bioeffects branch, adds a unique dimension to his professional profile. His clinical expertise spans family practice to emergency medicine, with notable contributions to the Stallman-Touro Clinic at The Shade Tree Women’s Shelter. 

In July 2021, Dr. Tobin joined Palm Beach Atlantic University, bringing his vision and expertise to develop a master’s degree program in PA Medicine poised to address critical healthcare needs nationwide. Under his guidance, the program aims to produce compassionate, skilled PAs ready to serve in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Dr. Tobin emphasizes the importance of empathy, resilience, and a commitment to serving disadvantaged communities, reflecting his holistic approach to PA education. 

Dr. Tobin’s recruitment to Palm Beach Atlantic was a strategic choice, aligning with the university’s mission to infuse healthcare practice with faith and service. His leadership is set to propel the PA program into a future of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in healthcare education at PBA, driven by a vision that extends beyond academia to fulfill a higher mission of care and compassion.
